Catherine Porter Departs Iwate

We had a get together on 6th July to say our farewells to Catherine Porter who had served as missionary for eight years alongside the 3.11 Iwate Church Network and the Morioka Bible Baptist Church (MBBC).  Due to the ongoing pandemic, this was held at MBBC with participation mainly from inland locations.

Her ministry centered mainly around Miyako.  In the earliest stages, it was about cleaning up in the aftermath of the disaster and delivering supplies to the survivors.  Longer term, she ministered using her gift as a harpist, giving concerts freely in the disaster-hit communities and holding mobile cafes at temporary housing.  She also continued to minister through individual visits.  After the public reconstruction housing developments were ready, she continued to hold gatherings at several locations.  In the latest stages of her ministry, under the guidance provided by MBBC, she worked along side David & Tomo Robison in a new church plant within the city of Miyako.

During this period, she also released 3 CDs through the 3.11 Iwate Church Network: “Lift Up Your Eyes”, “Into the Light”, and “Invited by Joy”.

Catherine returns to England for furlough.  Through prayer, she has been given visions for her next stage of missionary work in Japan, and will return in the autumn next year.  She will be based elsewhere, and will work in missions centered on her abilities as a harpist.  She left Morioka, Iwate on 7th July.  Although we certainly look forward to opportunities to serve together in the future, first and foremost, we give thanks for her labor in love, and send her forth with blessings.
