On December 28 at the Ikawa Elementary School Rokuroishi Temporary Housing Complex, Ofunato City, we held a rice cake pounding event in response to the request of the people in the community. The first round of the event began at 11 am, one hour earlier than originally planned. Participants (some rolled up sleeves) cheerfully worked together playing different roles from pounding and turning the rice in an usu (oversized wooden mortar), separating rice cake into small pieces, to putting seasoning on them. The provision of sticky rice and the preparation of other materials were made all by Morioka rice farmers, which made the taste pretty authentic. Every participant happily enjoyed the fabulous taste of the rice cake. We also delivered contributed support items and strips of paper with scriptures written on them.
