This week, Hocmin (Hokkaido), Japan Alliance Christ Church and teams from Hong Kong and Morioka collaborate in conducting relief activities, including the play-with-children group program at three after-school care locations in refugee center and in-house evacuation areas. In addition, vegetables, mosquito coils and other relief materials will be delivered to people in temporary housing and in-house evacuation areas.
A play-with-children group activity was held at Miyako Elementary School. Children seem to enjoy the program and are looking forward to every Saturday. Also, Christians from the Misawa Base brought a truckload of vegetables. We will deliver them home to home this weekend. In addition, from Chiba IBF Church, Christian members revisited Taro district after three months or one month to deliver relief supplies. On June 21 and 22, a second Onsen project was held at Senganishi onsen (spa) Azumakan Inn in Kanegasaki-cho. We invited 14 people from the affected area to say at the onsen ryokan inn, and to enjoy delicious dishes, onsen bathing and a good night’s rest, hoping to give them a great time of refreshment. Four people including me served as volunteer listeners to go around the guests during the dinner to listen to their stories. This week, we will continue to deliver contributed rice, vegetables and stuffed toys/animals and others in the local community and temporary housing areas of Miyako and Taro. We will also continue help the work at the roykan inn, our former “case camp.” Moreover, there will be new works of “Play-with-Children Group” starting at multiple after-school care locations in the earthquake affected areas. Today, Saturday Play-with-Children Group will go out to the site again. In addition, there will be a food service offered by the Tsugaru Gospel Church team (Aomori Prefecture) to people living in temporary houses and staying in a refugee center. On June 16 and 17 in Shizukuishi-cho, a retreat was held at “Hotel Mori no Kaze” for pastors who are serving in the earthquake affected areas. From Iwate Prefecture, 14 pastors and their family members or staff participated. The program included speeches by a CHC (Churches Helping Churches) representative and a guest speaker from Haiti, as well as group discussions. It was a good opportunity to reflect on the past relief activities in Iwate and to discuss the future plans. With child care provided, participated families had a great time. OMF, IBF (Chiba), Hocmin (Hokkaido), Togura Christ Church (Nagano), and Komaki Christian Way (Aichi) teams will jointly visit homes and temporary built houses in Miyako City to deliver supply materials. The crew will distribute items such as locally bought vegetables and fruits for 160 homes, as well as daily necessities and stuffed toys and animals, which have been sent from different locations.
